The government will work towards introducing a coordinated university admission test after the publication of this year's HSC and equivalent examination results, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Education, Milon said discussions are underway with vice-chancellors and other stakeholders, and the government's decision will be announced before the admission process begins.

The minister said that the government had earlier announced the schedule for the 2027 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination after consulting stakeholders, adding that the exam will begin on January 26 as there was broad consensus on the proposed date.

He also noted that the 2027 SSC routine had been published around one and a half years in advance to allow students sufficient preparation time. Similar coordination is being planned for university admissions to ensure that no session backlog is created, he added.

Responding to allegations that some teachers allow students to evaluate public examination answer scripts, Milon said the ministry would investigate the matter.

He said the number of examiners has been increased, the number of answer scripts assigned to each examiner reduced, and the evaluation process will be reviewed, including provisions for re-evaluation.

On question paper security, the minister said the government has strengthened preventive measures by introducing three sets of question papers, tightening legal provisions and enhancing examiner training to minimise irregularities, including question paper leaks.

Warning against the spread of misinformation on social media, he said strict legal action would be taken against anyone found disseminating false or misleading information related to the examinations.
