The government of Bangladesh is going to import a total of 75,000 metric tonnes of muriate of potash (MOP) fertiliser from Russia and Canada at a cost of Tk 351.26 crore.
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved two proposals in this regard.
The approval came at a meeting of the committee with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
The committee approved the import of 35,000 metric tonnes (±10%) of MOP fertiliser from Russia under a government-to-government agreement between JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg) and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).
The consignment will be procured at a cost of Tk 163.92 crore, with the price fixed at US$380 per metric tonne.
Besides, it approved the import of 40,000 metric tonnes (±10%) of MOP fertiliser from Canada under a state-level agreement between the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC)and BADC, reports UNB.
The purchase will cost Tk 187.34 crore, with the price also set at US$380 per metric tonne.
The committee awarded the contract to the Canadian Commercial Corporation.
