Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has said that in today's world, security is no longer confined to guarding borders or relying solely on conventional defense systems. With the rapid advancement of digital technology, the concepts of security, communication, and information management have undergone a fundamental transformation. In this changing reality, digital leadership, cybersecurity, and technology-driven expertise will form the foundation of future security systems.
The minister made these remarks on Wednesday while addressing the inauguration ceremony of Prantik Kanthaswar, the media cell of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force, at the force's headquarters in Khilgaon, Dhaka, as the chief guest.
He said that Prantik Kanthaswar is not merely a platform; it is an important component of the government's broader master plan for information management and digital transformation. He noted that the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force has demonstrated timely and innovative thinking through this initiative, which could serve as a model for other institutions in the country. He also urged the force to move beyond conventional perceptions of its large workforce by integrating its members with modern technology, information management, and digital communication, enabling them to contribute more effectively to the development of the state and society.
The minister further said that, in the modern world, ensuring only physical security is no longer sufficient for any major institution. Protecting information repositories and digital infrastructure from cyberattacks has become even more important. Referring to the Bangladesh Bank reserve heist, he said the incident demonstrated that the concept of security has entered an entirely new dimension. He identified adapting to change in the digital era by moving beyond outdated mindsets as one of the greatest challenges, emphasizing the need to shift from analog thinking to digital thinking and to develop strong digital leadership.
