3 Myanmar security personnel held in Teknaf

  
COX’ BAZAR, July 21: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained three members of Myanmar's security forces -- a army officer and two police officers -- after entering Bangladesh illegally.

The three crossed the Naf River and entered Bangladesh through the Naittongpara area of Teknaf municipality on Monday afternoon, where they were detained by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). They were later handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station. Detainees have been identified as Second Lieutenant Hein De Het of the Maungdaw Town Police Station in Rakhine State, police officer Hein Zaw, and Kyaw Naing, a member of Border Guard Police (BGP) Unit 3 based in Buthidaung.

According to 2-BGB Battalion sources, BGB personnel apprehended the three individuals around 12pm on Monday, after they swam across the Naf River and reached the Naityongpara border area under Teknaf Municipality.

Later that night, the border security force handed all three detainees over to Teknaf Model Police Station.

Initial investigations revealed that one detainee belongs to the Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP), while the other two are regular security force members, all of whom had reportedly been held captive by the insurgent group Arakan Army (AA) in Rakhine State before escaping.

Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam confirmed that the detainees were sent to court at approximately 11am on Tuesday (July 21) under relevant illegal entry laws, with further legal proceedings currently underway.
