The National Citizen Party (NCP) has decided not to conduct its planned “July March” programme in Gopalganj on 16 July, opting instead for local commemorative activities, citing security concerns and logistical constraints.
The decision comes ahead of the party’s month-long “July March 2026” campaign, which begins on Monday as part of its broader political agenda. According to party leaders, Gopalganj was initially included in the schedule, but the programme was removed shortly after the official roadmap was announced in Dhaka on Saturday evening. NCP leaders said senior figures will instead be engaged in programmes in Rangpur on the same day, including visiting the grave of July martyr Abu Sayeed. Local activists in Gopalganj will hold prayers and organisational discussions on 16 July without the presence of central leaders.
The party also referred to last year’s July programme in Gopalganj, which had turned tense and resulted in violence and casualties, as a factor behind the decision. NCP leaders indicated that the party may revisit Gopalganj in September as part of future organisational and election-related activities, pending further planning and security assessment.
