Jatiya Party Chairman and former Foreign Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud has said that, given the country's current political realities, it is essential to move away from politics of conflict, vengeance, and division and instead foster an environment of dialogue, tolerance, and inclusive political participation.
He said that Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman's recent call to rise above the politics of revenge and unite in the national interest sends a positive message. For the greater good of the country, all political parties should come forward based on mutual respect and democratic values.
He added that a stable political environment can only be established by ensuring the participation of all political forces in elections and governance, rather than unnecessarily excluding any political group.
Barrister Anisul made these remarks while delivering his presidential address at a meeting of the Jatiya Party Presidium held at the party chairman's office in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Sunday (July 5).
Speaking at the meeting, Jatiya Party Secretary General and former minister ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader said that the party has always stood in favor of democracy, constitutional continuity, and a peaceful political culture. He noted that the people of Bangladesh now seek effective democracy, good governance, economic stability, and people-oriented politics instead of conflict. He said the Jatiya Party would continue to play a responsible political role in meeting those expectations.
Calling on party leaders and activists to observe the seventh death anniversary of Jatiya Party founder and former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad with due respect on July 14, Howlader said that, alongside the central program, extensive activities would be organized at district, metropolitan, upazila, and all organizational levels.
He further said that through the active participation of party leaders and activists, Ershad's political contributions, development initiatives, and role in governing the country should be presented to the younger generation.
Among others, the Presidium meeting was addressed by Executive Chairman Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Senior Co-Chairman and Freedom Fighter Advocate Kazi Firoz Rashid, Co-Chairmen Syed Abu Hossain Babla, Shahidur Rahman Tepa, Mostafa Al Mahmud, the Chairman's Special Assistant Nasrin Jahan Ratna, Presidium Member Solaiman Alam Sheth, the Chairman's Special Envoy for International Affairs Masrur Mawla, Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan, Professor Nurul Islam Milon, Sardar Md.
