LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed hope for stronger cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), describing it as one of Bangladesh's largest development partners.

He made the remarks during a meeting with JICA President Dr. Tanaka Akihiko at the Secretariat on Sunday, where both sides discussed ongoing and future development cooperation.

Speaking with Dr. Tanaka Akihiko, the LGRD minister said JICA has played an important role in Bangladesh's infrastructure development, strengthening the local government system, ensuring safe water supply and supporting various public service sectors.

He expressed hope that cooperation between Bangladesh and JICA would become even stronger in the coming years.

During the meeting, the two sides held detailed discussions on ongoing and future development programmes involving Bangladesh and JICA.

They exchanged views on waste management, water management, strengthening the capacity of local government institutions and promoting sustainable urban development.

Mirza Fakhrul said Bangladesh is moving forward rapidly under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
