Bangladesh received US$696 million in remittances during the first six days of July, according to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bank.
The inflow was around US$270 million higher than that recorded during the same period last year. On average, expatriate Bangladeshis sent home about US$116 million a day, including US$129 million on July 6 alone.
The latest figures come after the country's six-month streak of receiving more than US$3 billion in monthly remittances ended in June. Bangladesh received US$2.806 billion in remittances last month, down by US$619 million from May and US$23 million from June last year.
Monthly remittance inflows exceeded US$3 billion from December through May, reaching US$3.22 billion in December, US$3.17 billion in January, US$3.01 billion in February, a record US$3.75 billion in March, US$3.12 billion in April and US$3.43 billion in May.
March recorded the highest monthly remittance inflow in the country's history at US$3.755 billion, according to Bangladesh Bank data.
