Bangladesh Railway decided to introduce a new pair of commuter trains on Dhaka-Gopalganj-Dhaka route in response to a long-standing demand from locals of the areas.
The new services, Train numbers 135 and 136, named ‘Abhijatri Commuter’, will begin operations on August 10, 2026, said Office of the Chief Operating Superintendent of Bangladesh Railway’s Western Zone on July 7, 2026.
According to the order, the train will operate six days a week, with Saturdays designated as the weekly off day. It will depart Dhaka at 3:30pm and arrive in Gopalganj at 6:45pm. After a 30-minute stop, the return service will leave Gopalganj at 7:15pm and reach Dhaka at 10:25pm. The eight-coach train will stop at Keraniganj, Srinagar, Mawa, Shibchar, Bhanga Junction, Nagarkanda, Maheshpur, Kashiani Junction, and several other stations in both directions.
The distance between Gopalganj and Dhaka has been set at 290 kilometres. The train’s rake maintenance, watering, and cleaning will be carried out in Dhaka. The train will consist of eight coaches. Each coach will accommodate between 52 and 97 passengers, with a total seating capacity of 609. It will offer Shovon and Metro-type Shovon Chair class seating.
