Bangladeshi businessman shot dead in South Africa, daughter injured

A Bangladeshi expatriate businessman from Noakhali was shot dead by unidentified assailants in South Africa, while his five-year-old daughter was injured in the same attack.

The incident took place at around 6:30 pm local time on Tuesday in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

The deceased was identified as Md. Yasin, 40, son of Md. Sujayet Ullah of Kanchanpur village under Ward No. 7 of Kadir Hanif Union in Noakhali Sadar Upazila.

According to the victim's younger brother, Md. Nasir, Yasin had been living in South Africa for about 16 years, where he owned a business and a house. About a year ago, he had taken his family to live with him.

Nasir said that Yasin was returning home after closing his business on Tuesday evening when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him in front of his residence. He died at the scene from gunshot wounds. His five-year-old daughter, Farhana, who was with him at the time, was also injured in the attack.

Officer-in-Charge of Sudharam Model Police Station, Mohammad Kamrul Islam, said he had been informed of the incident. He added that the relevant authorities would remain in contact with the victim's family and provide necessary assistance.
