Two people, including a student, were killed in separate lightning strikes in Sirajganj District and Singra Upazila of Natore District on Thursday.
SIRAJGANJ: A student died in a lightning strike in Baikunthapur Village of Pangasi Union in Raiganj Upazila of the district on Thursday.
The deceased Md Riyad, 11, was the son of Saidul Islam of the village and a class five student of Baikunthapur Government Primary School.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raiganj Police Station (PS) Md Ahsanuzzaman said that Riyad was fishing in a pond near his house on Thursday morning. At that time, when it suddenly started raining, a lightning struck him and he died on the spot. Later, his relatives recovered his body and took it home.
SINGRA, NATORE: A farmer was killed in a lightning strike while fishing in a pond near his house in Munshi Banshbaria Village of Itali Union in Singra Upazila of the district on Thursday morning.
The deceased Ismail Hossain, 35, was the son of late Kamal Uddin of the village.
Police and locals said that Ismail Hossain was fishing in the Dakkhiner Math (field) near his house at 6 am when lightning struck him. Later, being informed by a local farmer named Siddiq, he was rescued and taken to a local doctor who declared him dead.
Singra PS OC Rafiqul Islam said that the body was handed over to the family for burial.
