State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mij Shama Obaed Islam on Saturday said the government is continuing diplomatic efforts to bring back fugitives from abroad to face trial in Bangladesh.
Speaking at a seminar titled "Women's Advancement: Education and Career" at the Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Parishad Auditorium, she said the process of repatriating those who fled the country began under the interim government and is still ongoing.
"The government has been maintaining diplomatic communication with the countries where they are staying. The necessary processes are underway, and they will be brought back to Bangladesh to face justice," she said.
Referring to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and other alleged autocratic figures, the state minister claimed that legal proceedings had been completed against them and said the government was committed to ensuring that those who fled abroad also stand trial in Bangladesh.
The event was chaired by Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi. Among the special guests were Munshiganj-3 MP Md Kamruzzaman Ratan, Superintendent of Police Md Menhajul Alam PPM, District Council Administrator AKM Eradat Manu, and Civil Surgeon Dr Sajeda Begum.
