Road communication between Rangamati and Bandarban has been suspended after a bridge collapsed following heavy rainfall and landslides.
Local sources said the Brijghat Bridge on the Rangamati-Bandarban road collapsed after mountain streams swelled from days of rain, halting vehicular movement and disrupting emergency services and the transport of essential goods.
In a separate incident, the embankment of a rubber dam in Rangunia upazila collapsed under heavy water pressure, flooding low-lying areas, including parts of Rajasthali upazila in Rangamati. Damage to cropland and fish farms is feared.
The local administration is monitoring the situation and assessing the damage, while residents have been advised to avoid risky areas due to the threat of further landslides and flash floods.
