A fire at a power substation in Moghbazar on Saturday disrupted electricity supply to several areas of the capital, including Karwan Bazar, Tejgaon, Banglamotor, Moghbazar, New Eskaton, Kakrail and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Three units from Tejgaon Fire Service brought the fire under control. Power was restored to most affected areas through alternative arrangements.
However, around 15,000 consumers in the Bashundhara City Shopping Complex and Karwan Bazar areas remained without electricity until the evening.
Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) Chief Engineer Mohammad Tarikul Haque said the incident was caused by a flashover at the Moghbazar substation, damaging two breakers and several cables.
He said power supply to most of the affected consumers had been restored, while repair work on the damaged equipment was continuing. DPDC expected electricity to be fully restored by around 10:00 pm, subject to repair progress.
