3 bodies found near DMCH

The bodies of two people have been found near Dhaka University’s Ekushey Hall on Sunday, while another body was recovered from the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital nearby.

Police say they have yet to identify the dead, but say all three were “homeless”. It is believed that they may have died due to illness.

Two people were recovered from the footpath next to Amar Ekushey Hall in the Ananda Bazar area around 10:30am. They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared them dead.

Shahbag Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Mamun said, “In the morning, locals saw and reported two people lying sick on the footpath and on the other side of the road near Shahbagh’s Ananda Bazar and Amar Ekushey Hall.”

“When we went to the spot, rescued them and brought them to the hospital, the doctor on duty at the emergency department performed an examination and declared both of them dead.”

Police said they were vagabonds who usually slept on the footpaths.

Inspector Mohammad Faruk, chief of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp, said: “Shahbagh police recovered the two bodies and sent them to the morgue for post-mortem. Efforts are underway to identify them. Initially, it is believed that they died due to illness.”

Meanwhile, the body of an unidentified man was recovered from next to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical. He was found in poor condition around 9:30am on Sunday. The emergency department doctor declared him dead around 9:40am.

Ward Master Ayub Ali said, “A man was seen lying unwell behind the emergency department around 9:30am. Later, with the help of camp police, he was rescued and taken to the emergency department, where the doctor declared him dead after examination.” -bdnews24
