A section of a road named ‘Dholaikhal’ in old Dhaka has collapsed amid heavy rainfall, causing widespread concerns about the safety of the public.
On Sunday, the recently made divider of the road suddenly collapsed underground and was washed away.
Local sources confirmed the middle section, which is typically known as divider of the road, abruptly gave up on Sunday noon. There is a massive gap underneath the road and water is seen gushing through it.
Fears have spread among the residents that the whole road might collapse if necessary steps are not taken.
Police have already closed the road and heavy vehicles are diverted to alternative roads.
A side-lane surrounding a pond in Bongshal has also collapsed due to heavy downpour. The sidewalks have been severely damaged and disintegrated from the surface.
Residents fear more damage if left as it is.
