
Dhaka recorded 175 millimeters of rainfall in the last 24 hours, making it the second highest rainfall in the last 17 years. The highest rainfall in Dhaka in a day was recorded at 333 millimeters in 2009.
AKM Nazmul Haque from the Meteorologist Department said, highest downpour since 2009 has been recorded this Sunday. Monsoon is active over Bangladesh so it is normal to have more rain during the monsoon.
He said that 160 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in Chattogram, 113 millimeters in Cox's Bazar, 140 millimeters in Ambagan, and 111 millimeters in Faridpur.
Nazmul Haque informed that the trend of rainfall may continue in different regions of the country for the next five days.
Especially, there is a possibility of moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.
The forecast for July 13 shows a possibility of rain in most places of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Khulna divisions, and many places of Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.
During this time, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in several areas. Day temperature may increase slightly, but night temperature may remain almost unchanged.
Meanwhile, the death toll from floods and landslides in five districts of Chattogram has risen to 51.
Among the deceased, three are in Rangamati, six in Bandarban, 28 in Cox's Bazar, 13 in Chattogram, and one in Moulvibazar. Besides, 39 people have been injured. Among them, one is in Khagrachhari, two in Bandarban, 24 in Cox's Bazar, and 12 in Chattogram.
