McCullum Sacked as England Test Head Coach
Brendon McCullum has been sacked as England's Test head coach, bringing the Bazball era to an end. He will remain in charge of England's white-ball teams.
The decision follows a disappointing run of results, including a 4-1 Ashes defeat in Australia and a 2-1 home series loss to New Zealand, as well as recent off-field controversies.
McCullum said he was "gutted" by the decision but respected it and will now focus on England's limited-overs sides.
His departure comes just two weeks after Ben Stokes stepped down as Test captain and retired from international cricket, leaving England without both a captain and a Test head coach ahead of the Pakistan series starting on 19 August.
McCullum took over the Test team in 2022 and, alongside Stokes, transformed England's style of play with the aggressive "Bazball" approach. England won 10 of their first 11 Tests under the pair, but their form declined significantly over the past two years.
Harry Brook is the leading candidate to become the next Test captain, while the ECB is expected to begin the search for McCullum's successor.
