Dozens of Nigeria-based militant group Boko Haram members have been killed in an air strike by The Nigerian Air Force (NAF). The operation was conducted in the northeastern province of Borno.

‘The operation was conducted in and around the Yaganari district of Borno last Saturday’ said NAF spokesperson Ethimen Ejodame.

He added, dozens of Boko Haram militants were killed by air force gunfire and bombings in the operation, while the rest fled in an injured state.

Ejodame further said that, all hideouts and structures of Boko Haram in Yaganari and its surrounding areas were destroyed after the air force operation.

Ground troops recovered several Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and a huge amount of ammunition and firearms from various militant hideouts.

‘We had already gained an understanding of the militants' hideouts and structures through intelligence and surveillance sources. For this reason, our operation was very organized and precise,’ Ejodame said in the statement.

Due to the terrorist activities of Boko Haram, thousands of people have been killed in Nigeria over the last 24 years, and almost a million have been displaced.

Last December, the United States announced that US military officers would train the Nigerian army to neutralize Boko Haram. That training began a few months ago.
