Limit job span to 15 years

Dear Sir,

Educated unemployment in our country has reached an alarming level, demanding bold and timely policy action. One possible solution is to limit employment in both the public and private sectors to a maximum of 15 years from the date of joining. After retirement, employees could use their pension or retirement benefits to start businesses or become self-employed.

The salary of one senior employee could fund the recruitment of two or three youths. Replacing long-serving employees with new recruits would create more job opportunities, reduce unemployment, and help curb social problems such as crime and drug abuse linked to joblessness.

The practice of reappointing retired officials on contract should also end. Instead, these positions should be filled by qualified young professionals for fixed 15-year terms. Such a policy would promote workforce renewal, create employment and strengthen the country’s economic and social development.
