The Israeli military has claimed that Omar Ahmed Abu Qassem, an officer in charge of the sniper unit of the Qassam Brigades, the resistance movement of Hamas, was killed in an airstrike in the central part of the besieged Palestinian enclave of Gaza.
Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported this information in a report on Thursday (July 16).
The army claims that he actively participated in various attacks on Israeli soldiers in Gaza during the ongoing war.
Meanwhile, at least 12 people have been killed in Gaza in Israeli airstrikes over the past two days, despite a ceasefire that has been in effect since October 2025.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 1,123 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire came into effect.
