The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations have been suspended indefinitely in Chattogram and four adjoining hill and coastal districts, following continued flooding, officials said.
The Inter-Education Boards Coordination Committee announced the decision in a press release on Thursday night. Besides Chattogram, the affected districts are Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar.
Committee chairman Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman signed the notice, which cited the over all situation in flood-hit areas, the physical and mental condition of examinees as reasons. Damaged roads have made it difficult for candidates to reach examination centres, the notice added.
Remaining papers of the HSC, Alim, HSC (BMT), HSC (Vocational) and Diploma in Commerce examinations 2026 under the Chattogram board, along with the units of the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board and Bangladesh Technical Education Board that fall under it, will remain suspended until further notice. A revised schedule will be announced later, the committee said.
Examinations in other boards and in districts outside the Chattogram board's coverage will proceed as scheduled.
Chattogram board's Controller of Examinations, Md Parvez Sajjad Chowdhury, confirmed the decision, saying many examinees were struggling in commuting between home and examination centres because of flood-damaged roads which prompted the suspension.
The exams had earlier been suspended until Thursday due to flooding.
