SAAB elects new executive committee

The Soviet and Russian Alumni Association of Bangladesh (SAAB) elected its new Executive Committee at its 14th executive committee election held at the Russian House in Dhaka on Saturday, with nearly 400 members casting their votes.

Established on August 7, 1982, SAAB is one of the country’s leading alumni organisations, representing more than 6,000 graduates of Soviet and Russian higher educational institutions. Its members have contributed to various sectors, including education, science, engineering, medicine, public administration, research, business and culture.

The election formed a 22-member Executive Committee to lead the association for the next term. The committee is expected to continue SAAB’s activities aimed at strengthening educational, cultural, scientific and humanitarian cooperation between Bangladesh and the Russian Federation.

Speaking on the occasion, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka Alexandra Khlevnoy congratulated the newly elected committee and wished its members success in their new responsibilities.

She said SAAB has continued to play an important role in promoting academic cooperation, cultural exchange and people-to-people relations between Bangladesh and Russia.

The Russian House also reiterated its support for SAAB and its alumni network, while reaffirming its commitment to expanding opportunities for Bangladeshi students through Russian higher education and government scholarship programmes.
