US-Bangla Airlines has proposed carrying Hajj pilgrims from Bangladesh in 2027 at a fare of Tk 98,000 per person, subject to government approval.
The airline submitted a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Tuesday, seeking a favourable decision to operate Hajj flights for the upcoming season.
The proposed fare is significantly lower than the airfare paid by pilgrims during the 2026 Hajj season, when the per-person airfare was Tk 154,830. Airfare constitutes a major portion of the total Hajj package cost.
Confirming receipt of the letter, Religious Affairs Secretary Munshi Alauddin Al Azad said the proposal would serve as a positive factor during negotiations to reduce Hajj airfares.
“The proposal from US-Bangla will work as a plus point in discussions on lowering airfare. We will discuss the matter,” he said.
According to ministry sources, US-Bangla in its letter said it is willing to operate Hajj flights at a net fare of Tk 98,000 per passenger while complying with all required conditions, aiming to help low-income Bangladeshi Muslims perform Hajj at a lower cost.
Currently, alongside Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Saudi Arabia’s national carrier Saudia Airlines and private carrier Flynas operate Hajj flights from Bangladesh during the Hajj season.
Talking to the media, Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) Secretary General Farid Ahmed Majumder said they have always demanded a reduction in Hajj airfare.
“We have always raised the issue of reducing airfare. The proposal submitted by US-Bangla Airlines will be discussed at the meeting,” he said.
A meeting involving officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, and other stakeholders was scheduled to be held at the Secretariat on Tuesday to finalise the 2027 Hajj package.
Religious Affairs Secretary Al Azad said the government is committed to reducing Hajj costs and will discuss US-Bangla’s proposal in the meeting.
“US-Bangla has informed us that if we allow them, they will obtain approval from the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority. We also want people to be able to perform Hajj at a lower cost. Competition among airlines over Hajj fares is a positive development,” he added.
