Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has issued a show-cause notice to its Mymensingh-11 (Bhaluka) lawmaker Fakhruddin Bachchu over allegations of extortion, control of the jute trade and interference in various business establishments.

The notice, signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, said a number of allegations against Bachchu, including extortion, had surfaced in recent days and were reported by different media outlets.

The party has asked the MP to submit a written explanation within 48 hours, stating why organisational action should not be taken against him.

According to the notice, Bachchu had previously been expelled from the party following August 5 over various allegations. However, after admitting his mistakes and seeking forgiveness, the expulsion order was withdrawn on September 30, 2025.
Reacting to the development, Bachchu rejected all allegations, describing them as baseless.

"I came to know a while ago that I have been given a show-cause notice. All the allegations against me are false. Neither I nor any of my family members are involved in the jute business. I have not demanded any bribe from any business organisation," he told the Daily Observer.

Referring to a photograph being circulated in connection with the allegations, he said the image was not authentic.
"The picture of me that is being spread is not my picture. It may have been created using artificial intelligence (AI)," Bachchu said.
