BSTI orders recall of 8 products over Quality Violations 

The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has ordered four companies to withdraw eight products from the market after laboratory tests found they failed to meet the Bangladesh Standards.

In a press release issued on Monday, BSTI said the tests detected excessive preservatives, harmful microorganisms and other quality deviations in the products.

According to the findings, Fresh Garden Agro Resources' mango pickle contained excessive preservatives, while Kazi Food Industries' Bellisimo-brand Rotondo Hazelnut Coated Chocolate ice cream exceeded the permitted limit for total milk solid non-fat.

BSTI also found harmful microorganisms in four cosmetic products marketed under Olive Bangladesh's Labonno brand�"Milk Skin Lotion, Aloe Vera Skin Lotion, Face Wash and Shampoo.

In addition, Deco Foods' Deco Fruit Funda mango and orange soft drink powders were found to contain less vitamin C than the required standard.

BSTI said it had issued rejection notices to the four companies and directed them to immediately stop producing, selling and distributing the products until their licences are renewed.

The standards body warned that it would closely monitor compliance and take strict legal action against any company found violating the directive.

BSTI Director General (Secretary) Kazi Imdadul Hoque said consumers have the right to quality products. He urged buyers to check the BSTI certification mark, licence number and expiry date before purchasing products and to report any complaints about substandard goods to the organisation.
