NCP expels Sundarganj leader after arrest in Yaba case

National Citizen Party (NCP) expelled one of its leaders after he was arrested by police in a narcotics case involving the recovery of Yaba pills.

Shakil Khan, 26, who was serving as the co-organising secretary of the Sundarganj Upazila unit of the party, was arrested during an anti-drug drive conducted by police in the early hours of Monday. A case has since been filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.

In a press release issued that day, signed by Gaibandha District NCP Senior Joint Convener (Office) Rashedul Islam Jewel, NCP announced that Shakil had been relieved of both his primary membership and organisational post.

The statement said that "clear evidence" was found of his involvement in activities that violated party discipline and constituted "anti-social activities".
"His activities have tarnished the party's policy and image. For this reason, he has been relieved of his primary membership and the post of co-organising secretary of the Sundarganj Upazila branch," the release said.

According to the statement, the decision was taken jointly by Gaibandha District NCP Convener Khademul Islam and Acting Member Secretary Chowdhury Rahat Ibne Shahid.
