Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) conducted an eviction drive at Shahbagh metro rail station on Thursday, July 23 to clear illegal occupations, floating shops and unauthorized structures.

DMTCL Executive Magistrate Nazrul Islam led the operation, supported by MRT Police, the Ramna Police Station under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Bangladesh Ansar, and representatives from Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

According to DMTCL, the drive began at ground-level Gate-B of Shahbagh Metro Station and extended to all other station gates and surrounding areas. During the operation, illegal encroachments, floating shops, and unauthorized structures set up on footpaths and adjacent spaces were removed.

Additionally, two cases were filed and fines were collected from motorcycle owners for illegally parking on the footpath in front of BIRDEM Hospital near the station. A floating food cart blocking passenger movement was seized and handed over to the DSCC representative for further legal action.

DMTCL stated that the drive cleared the surrounding areas of the Shahbagh metro station, ensuring a safe and hassle-free environment for commuters.

The agency added that such eviction drives will continue regularly and warned everyone to refrain from illegal occupation and unauthorized activities.
