Charmonai Pir questions about Jamaat's ideology

IslamiAndolan Bangladesh Ameer Mufti Syed Rezaul Karim, widely known as Charmonai Pir, criticised Jamaat-e-Islami over its political positioning and electoral strategy, alleging that the issue of Jamaat's war crimes is widely discussed and well-established.

Addressing the Cumilla North district conference of IslamiAndolan Bangladesh at the Debidwar Upazila Parishad auditorium on Wednesday, Rezaul Karim claimed that Jamaat had suffered political setbacks after removing Al Aqimuddin from its party logo.

Jamaat was defeated at one stage after removing 'Al Aqimuddin' from its logo. The issue of Jamaat's war crimes is widely discussed and well-established, he said.

Referring to Jamaat's political alliances over the years, the IslamiAndolan chief alleged that the party had aligned itself with different political forces depending on the political context.

Jamaat has been in sync with different parties at different times-it is clear before us. During the Awami League's tenure, it was with the Awami League; during the BNP's tenure, with the BNP; and at other times with others, he said.

Questioning the party's ideological position, Rezaul Karim added, "Even then, what was their ideology The ideology was Islam. But now that Islam has been removed from the logo, I do not know of any other ideology they have."

He further criticisedJamaat and its allied Islamist parties over their stated commitment to democratic governance.

The other Islamic parties that are associated with them have also lost the moral authority to present themselves as representatives of Islam before us. 

Jamaat has clearly stated that if it comes to power, it will not run the country according to Islamic Sharia, but according to conventional democracy, he said.
