Legendary singer Runa Laila will perform at a solo concert at the National Theatre Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday evening, with the proceeds from the event to be donated for flood relief.

The organisers said all ticket sale proceeds will be contributed to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund to support people affected by the floods.

The concert marks Runa Laila's first solo performance at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, despite her more than six-decade-long musical career and numerous performances at home and abroad.

She is scheduled to perform 10 popular songs from different stages of her 62-year professional career. The veteran singer will also receive a special honour at the event.

Expressing her excitement, Runa Laila said the programme would provide an opportunity to share the journey of her music, songs and memories with the younger generation. She said she would perform some of the audience's favourite songs and hoped the evening would be memorable for music lovers.

The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has previously honoured legendary singers Sabina Yasmin and Syed Abdul Hadi through similar programmes.

Following the Dhaka concert, Runa Laila is scheduled to visit Australia later this month, where she will take part in several musical events for expatriate Bengali-speaking audiences.
