The United States has not imposed any additional tariff on Bangladesh, as the earlier temporary 10 per cent tariff has simply been replaced by another 10 per cent tariff under a different legal framework, according to American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) President Syed Mohammad Kamal.

He said Bangladesh remains in the lowest US tariff tier alongside countries such as India, Pakistan, Malaysia and the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, several of Bangladesh's key export competitors, including China, Vietnam and Thailand, will face a higher tariff of 12.5 per cent.

"This differential gives Bangladesh a relative competitive advantage in the US market by improving its position against key rival exporting countries," Kamal said.

He added that the latest US tariff decision safeguards Bangladesh's competitiveness in its largest export destination and strengthens its position against several competing exporting nations.
