Youth to die for murder in Narayanganj

NARAYANGANJ, July 27: Narayanganj Sessions Judge Md Abu Shamim Azad on Sunday afternoon has sentenced a young man to death and fined Tk 2 lakh in the Safia murder case filed by Rupganj Police Station (PS).

The convicted Md Rubel Mia, 35, is the son of Liton Mia of Uttar Panchani area of Uttar Matlab Upazila in Chandpur District. Court Police Inspector Md Abdus Samad confirmed the matter.

The court’s Public Prosecutor, Advocate Abul Kalam Azad Zakir, said that Rubel Mia hit on his neighbour Safia Begum’s throat with a knife in Jangir area of Rupganj when Safia’s husband Md Shahjalal Bhuiyan went to the mosque for Friday prayers. Later, Rubel fled with the gold chain and earrings from the victim’s body. Meanwhile, Safia Begum died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Later, her daughter Ferdousi Begum Maya filed a case with Rupganj PS in this incident. The police investigated the case and identified the culprit. At the same time, the court declared the verdict based on the evidence in the case.
