MP Babar opens environmental conservation drive in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, July 27: Gopalganj-2 lawmaker Dr KM Babar on Sunday inaugurated a fish stocking and tree plantation programme organised by JK Polymer Industries in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila.

The MP formally launched the programme by releasing fingerlings into the Demakir Beel adjacent to the industrial facility and planting a sapling on the premises of JK Polymer Industries in the afternoon.

As part of the initiative, the company released 500kg of indigenous fish fingerlings into the beel to help replenish local fish stocks and promote biodiversity. It also launched a plantation programme under which 1,000 fruit-bearing, timber and medicinal tree saplings will be planted around the factory premises.

Speaking at the event, Dr Babar highlighted the importance of conserving natural resources and protecting the environment through initiatives such as fish stocking and tree plantation. He said the combined efforts would contribute to restoring aquatic biodiversity, increasing green cover and promoting sustainable development.

The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner Md Arif-Uz-Zaman, Superintendent of Police Md Habibullah, District Fisheries Officer Md Kamrul Islam, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kaushik Ahmed, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Debola Chakraborty, Executive Magistrate Md Ataur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Gopalganj Police Station Md Aminul Islam, leaders of the BNP and its associate bodies, and officials and employees of the company.
