Protesters surround Jamaat MP's house over alleged assault on madrasa students

A group of protesters surrounded the house of Jessore-4 MP and district Jamaat Ameer Golam Rasul in the Nilganj Supari Bagan area of Jessore town on Tuesday morning following allegations that his daughter assaulted students of a local madrasa.

The protesters also hurled bricks at the house, damaging window panes. Police later dispersed the crowd and brought the situation under control. Additional police were deployed in front of the residence.

According to allegations by protesters, Mehezabien Jannat Ananya, the MP's daughter, assaulted and intimidated students of Al Madrasatul Shariah, located opposite the MP's house, on Monday afternoon. Police later held discussions between representatives of the madrasa and the MP, leading to a settlement.

However, protesters alleged that on Tuesday morning Ananya again confronted the madrasa students and their guardians. During the incident, a guardian, identified as Rexana Khatun, was reportedly struck on the head with a lock. The incident triggered protests by guardians and local residents, who gathered outside the MP's house, attempted to enter by breaking the gate and threw bricks at the building. Police dispersed the protesters after about three hours.

Muhatamim of Al Madrasatul Shariah, Kabir Hossain, alleged that the MP's daughter had assaulted the madrasa children on several occasions. He said a settlement had been reached on Monday following the previous incident, but claimed that the MP and his daughter again confronted the children while they were playing on Tuesday morning. He further alleged that Ananya threw a lock, injuring the guardian of a student, prompting local residents and guardians to protest.

MP Golam Rasul and his family did not comment on the allegations.

However, the MP's wife, Sharmin Dina, claimed that their daughter Ananya has mental health problems. She alleged that although the madrasa remains closed, children gather there at different times and create disturbances, and that the dispute arose after her daughter protested against it.

She also claimed that their house had come under attack and that false allegations were being made against the family.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Masum Khan said the dispute involved the MP's daughter and children and guardians of the madrasa. He said police brought the situation under control after protesters surrounded the MP's house and asked anyone with a complaint to submit it in writing so that necessary action could be taken following an investigation.
