The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has set October 7 as the final deadline for applications to be included in the official gazette as freedom fighters, after which no further applications will be accepted.
The ministry announced the deadline in a public notice on Thursday (October 1).
The notice urged eligible applicants seeking gazette recognition to submit their applications within the stipulated timeframe. It said applications would not be accepted after October 7.
Earlier, on September 28, the parliamentary committee on the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs recommended that the ministry prepare and submit a report containing accurate lists of Liberation War martyrs and genuine freedom fighters.
The committee also asked the ministry to take necessary steps so that genuine freedom fighters can receive required benefits on a priority basis through the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Kalyan Trust.
At a meeting in Parliament, the committee also recommended measures to keep the freedom fighters’ council operational and to undertake initiatives to present the accurate history of the Liberation War.
It further advised the ministry to take necessary steps to ensure due respect for freedom fighters and July fighters.
