Gas Crisis Needs Urgent Solutions

Dear Sir,

The persistent gas crisis in Bangladesh has become a serious concern for households, industries and the economy. Inadequate gas supplies are disrupting industrial production, increasing operating costs, delaying export orders and creating uncertainty over investment and employment.

The crisis is equally burdensome for urban households. In many areas, gas pressure remains inadequate during morning and evening cooking hours, forcing families to rely on expensive alternatives and disrupting their daily routines.

The government should adopt both immediate and long-term measures to address the problem. Domestic gas exploration should be intensified, while old wells should be reopened and modern technologies used to improve extraction. Greater investment in renewable energy can also reduce dependence on imported LNG.

At the same time, gas wastage caused by illegal connections, pipeline faults and transmission weaknesses must be addressed. Ensuring reliable gas supplies to industries is essential for protecting production, employment and economic growth.
