Indian high commissioner Dinesh Tripathi meets Bangladesh foreign minister

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Tripathi on Wednesday paid his first courtesy calls on Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam since formally assuming office in Dhaka, with both sides discussing bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation on issues of mutual interest.

Tripathi arrived at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at around 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday. According to ministry sources, he first met State Minister Shama Obaed Islam before holding a separate meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman.

During the meetings, the two sides exchanged views on Bangladesh-India bilateral relations, issues of mutual interest, and measures to further enhance existing cooperation. They also emphasized maintaining close communication and advancing collaboration on shared priorities.

Tripathi arrived in Bangladesh on June 12 as India's newly appointed High Commissioner. He officially assumed his responsibilities after presenting his credentials to the President of Bangladesh at Bangabhaban on June 25.

The meetings with the foreign minister and state minister marked his first formal courtesy calls on the country's foreign affairs leadership since taking office.

Notably, 23 days after the new high commissioner arrived in Dhaka, India resumed issuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi citizens, ending a suspension that had lasted for nearly two years.
