A mobile court conducted by Dhaka District Administration fined three individuals for violating the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage Control (Amendment) Act 2026.
The court conducted its operation on Wednesday at Sadarghat, Dhaka.
Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka District Administration, Saifunnahar, led the drive across the Sadarghat terminal and its adjacent areas.
During the drive, a man named Mohammad Abir was fined Tk 500 under Section 4 of the law for smoking inside the terminal premises.
Additionally, the mobile court fined Abul, manager of launch 'Mayur-7', and Mohammad Shimul, supervisor of 'MV Surabhi', Tk 5,000 each for failing to display mandatory 'No Smoking' signages on their vessels.
Sub-Inspector Sajib Ahmed of Sadarghat River Police served as the prosecutor. Representatives from Development Activities of Society (DAS) and NATAB provided overall support during the operation.
Officials concerned stated that such mobile court drives and monitoring activities will continue regularly to protect public health and maintain smoke-free public spaces and transportation.
