Dhaka University (DU) Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane on Wednesday said that Dhaka University (DU) remains the last refuge of the people of this country.
He made the remark while addressing a programme titled "Remembering July, Inspiring Awakening (Smritite o Jagorone Jibanta July)" organised by Kabi Jasimuddin Hall in the evening as the chief guest.
The Pro-VC said DU teachers and students would stand united against fascism. He also said the university authorities would negotiate with the government to ensure safe food management for residential students.
The programme was chaired by Kabi Jasimuddin Hall Provost Prof Dr S M Arif Mahmud. DU Proctor Mohammad Israfil Prang attended as the special guest, while House Tutor Md Zahid Al Mamun conducted the event.
Professor Dr Mohammad Kamruzzaman of the Institute of Leather Engineering and Technology addressed the programme as the special speaker.
During the programme, Alhaj Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan, father of July martyr Farhan Faiyaz, and Sabrina Afroz Sebonti, sister of martyr Mahamudur Rahman Soikat, shared memories of the two martyrs and recalled their sacrifices during the July movement.
Hall student Fazle Rabbi Sarkar also recounted his experiences and the horrors of the July uprising. Kabi Jasimuddin Hall Union Vice-President (VP) Mohammad Osman Gani and General Secretary (GS) Masum Abdullah delivered speeches, expressing solidarity with the teachers who took part in the July movement, particularly Hall Union Treasurer Mohammad Rashed Alam Bhuiyan.
Among others, Hall Union Social Service Secretary Abdullah Al Maruf, Literary Secretary Md Abu Sufian, DUCSU member Tajinur Rahman, residential and assistant residential teachers, and students of the hall attended the programme.
The programme concluded with participants paying deep tribute to the July martyrs.
