Indian Aadhaar Card recovered from notorious criminal David Emon

Detectives in Chattogram have recovered an Indian Aadhaar identification card bearing the name "Azhar Khan" from alleged top criminal Mobarak Hossain, alias David Emon, following his arrest in connection with a murder investigation. Police said they are verifying whether the card is genuine or forged.

The Aadhaar card, recovered by the Chattogram District Detective Branch (DB), lists the holder's name as Azhar Khan and carries a date of birth of May 12, 1998. Investigators said they have yet to determine the authenticity of the document and are examining the matter.

An Aadhaar card is a 12-digit biometric-based identity document issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to residents of India and is widely used for identity verification in accessing government and private services.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Russell confirmed the recovery on Thursday.

According to Chattogram Superintendent of Police Md. Masud Alam, David Emon was identified during the investigation into the high-profile murder of Maksudul Haque Chowdhury, who was killed in the city's Pahartali area on June 13. Police said CCTV footage, technical evidence and intelligence inputs helped identify those allegedly involved.

The investigation gained momentum after the arrest of Mithu alias Dhama Ilias, an accused in the murder case, on July 22. During a two-day remand, he allegedly disclosed information about a criminal network, hidden weapons and associates.

Police said Dhama Ilias is a close associate of another listed criminal, Raihan, and faces 21 cases, including murder, illegal arms possession and extortion.

Acting on information obtained during interrogation, police, with assistance from the Jashore District Police, conducted a raid in the Jhumjhumpur area under Jashore Kotwali Police Station on July 29 and arrested Mobarak Hossain alias David Iman (25), Al Islam Alif alias Tamal (25), Md. Shamim (28), and Md. Safayet Hossain (24).

Investigators said David Emon had allegedly been involved in criminal activities across Chattogram metropolitan area as well as Fatikchhari and Rangunia for a long period. Police records show he is accused in 13 cases involving murder, arms offences and extortion, while investigators are also examining his alleged links to several other killings in Chattogram, Raozan and Rangunia.

Following further interrogation of the arrested suspects, police conducted another operation early Thursday at an abandoned house in Paitral Tilapara of Manikpur village under Kanchannagar Union in Fatikchhari upazila. Officers recovered one foreign-made pistol, two locally made firearms (LG guns) and several other locally made weapons, police said.
