US President Donald Trump has claimed that Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups have agreed in principle to disarm under a proposed framework aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza, though key details remain unresolved and Israel has yet to comment.

According to Al Jazeera, a draft agreement outlines a plan to develop a disarmament framework within 14 days, with the timeline subject to extension if approved by international monitoring bodies.

Hamas official Ghazi Hamad said discussions had been difficult and stressed that any implementation would depend on Israel meeting key conditions, including the withdrawal of its forces from Gaza and progress on reconstruction.

Trump described the reported agreement as a major step toward peace, saying it would pave the way for a new Palestinian administration in Gaza while addressing Israel’s security concerns.

Under the proposed framework, weapons held by Hamas and other armed groups would be handed over in phases to a national committee tasked with governing Gaza. Heavy weapons would be decommissioned, and military activities in the territory would eventually cease.

Trump also said Israeli troops would withdraw from Gaza after the disarmament process, to be replaced by an international stabilisation force working alongside a new Palestinian police force.

Hamas negotiators have been holding talks in Cairo with mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey. Egyptian media reported that another round of negotiations involving the United States and regional mediators is expected soon to discuss implementation of the proposed roadmap.

However, the Palestinian armed group Islamic Jihad denied reports that a final agreement had been reached and said it objected to parts of the proposal currently being circulated.
