A severe gas shortage has disrupted operations at many CNG filling stations in Dhaka, forcing drivers to wait for hours or switch to more expensive fuels.

A visit to several CNG stations across the capital on Friday found that some outlets had suspended refuelling due to a lack of gas, while others were operating with very low pressure, limiting supplies.

Drivers said the available gas was far below demand, resulting in long waits at stations that remained operational. Many said they had been forced to use octane or petrol instead of CNG, significantly increasing their daily fuel costs.

The shortage has also reduced the number of CNG-powered vehicles on Dhaka’s roads, as many drivers struggle to secure fuel.
