High alert across country over possible attacks on police vehicles

Police have been placed on high alert nationwide over fears of possible attacks on police vehicles.

The Police Headquarters Operations Control issued an urgent directive to all field units on Saturday, instructing them to immediately strengthen security measures based on intelligence suggesting that extremist groups or miscreants could target police jeeps, pickups, buses and other vehicles.

The directive stressed that there must be no negligence in ensuring the safety of police vehicles, particularly those parked during and after duty.

It instructed police personnel to park vehicles in secure locations during temporary stops and keep them under constant surveillance. No police vehicle should be left unattended without the driver or a responsible officer, it said.

Additional security measures have also been ordered for government vehicles parked at police stations, police lines, office compounds and other designated locations after duty.

Police units have been asked to increase patrols, maintain surveillance and take extra precautions to identify suspicious people or objects in and around these locations.

Police Headquarters directed metropolitan, range, district and unit offices across the country to strictly implement the measures, describing the matter as “very important”.
