Barrister Omar Sadat elected LOCC president, Shamsul Arefin secretary general

Barrister Omar Sadat was unanimously elected president and Shamsul Arefin secretary general of the Law and Order Coordination Council (LOCC) for the 2026-2028 term at the organisation's Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Friday at the LOCC office in Gulshan Police Station.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Law and Order Coordination Council (LOCC), a platform established to strengthen law and order and ensure safer living for citizens, was held at its office under Gulshan Police Station in the capital.

The new executive committee was elected unanimously, with Barrister Omar Sadat taking over as president and Shamsul Arefin as secretary general for the 2026-2028 term.

LOCC is a joint initiative of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan societies, and the Gulshan Youth Club.

DNCC Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton attended the AGM as the chief guest. Among the special guests were DMP Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Mokhles Islam and RAJUK Chairman Riazul Islam. Senior officials of the DMP and RAJUK, representatives of the participating societies and leaders of the Gulshan Youth Club also attended the event.

Speakers at the meeting said LOCC has played a key role in improving the law and order situation in the Gulshan Police Station area since its inception. They noted that coordinated efforts involving the police, the city corporation, local residents and community organisations have helped make the area one of the safest and most orderly in the country.

They also highlighted LOCC's contribution to transforming Gulshan into a "zero-crime" model area through the use of modern CCTV surveillance, community policing and proactive crime prevention measures.

Addressing the meeting, newly elected President Barrister Omar Sadat said the council's greatest strength lies in the partnership between government agencies, law enforcement bodies and civil society.

"We will continue to work in a coordinated manner over the next two years to make Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan safer, more technology-driven and better organised," he said.

The meeting concluded with participants congratulating the newly elected committee and expressing hope that LOCC would further strengthen its activities in promoting public safety and community engagement.
