Lightning strikes kill 2 at Singra, Dhamoirhat

Two farmers were killed in separate lightning strike incidents in Singra Upazila of Natore District and Dhamoirhat Upazila of Naogaon District on Sunday.

SINGRA, NATORE: A day labourer died after being struck by lightning while cutting jute on someone else's land in the Chanpur Field area of Singra Upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon. 

The deceased Milon Uddin, 28, was the son of Minhaj Uddin of Nazarpur Village in Kalam Union of the upazila.

It is known that day labourer Milon Uddin and several others were cutting jute and weeding a farmer's land. At that time, heavy rain and lightning started, and everyone took shelter. But Milon Uddin was injured in the lightning strike. Later, he was taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Upazila Health Complex RMO Dr Zahurul Islam said that the day labourer died before reaching the hospital.

Officer-in-Charge of Singra Police Station (PS) Rafiqul Islam confirmed the death.

DHAMOIRHAT, NAOGAON: A farmer was killed in a lightning strike while planting paddy in his land in the Mongolia West Field area of Alampur Union in Dhamoirhat Upazila of the district on Sunday morning. 

The deceased Abu Bakkar Siddique, 50, was the son of late Abdur Gafur Mandal of the area.

According to local sources, he went to plant paddy in a crop field near his house in the rain in the morning. At that time, he was seriously injured when lightning suddenly struck. Later, with the help of locals, he was taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Duty Officer of Dhamoirhat PS ASI Raihan said that the body has been handed over to his relatives after completing the necessary legal procedures.
