Indian government has no connection with the ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s participation or remarks at a private event in Delhi, said Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

During a press briefing on Tuesday (4 August), Jaiswal commented on Indian government involvement. He said, government also holds no involvement with such activities. A private media organization is hosting the event. The Indian government has no link or involvement with the program.

He added that the government does not endorse or support the views expressed or statements made at such events.

Media reports indicate Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to address foreign journalists virtually on Wednesday at the Foreign Correspondents' Club (FCC) in New Delhi. The Bangladesh government raised objections regarding the event.

On Monday, Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir conveyed Dhaka’s stance to Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi. He requested that the ousted prime minister and leaders of the banned Awami League refrain from making political statements while in India, as such remarks could harm bilateral relations.

According to the FCC, the event will run from 6:00PM to 7:30PM on Wednesday. Sajeeb Wazed will join virtually from the United States. Although Sheikh Hasina was initially expected to speak virtually, organizers stated on Tuesday that an audio message from her will be played. Sources at the FCC noted that several absconding Awami League leaders may attend the event in person.
