PM Tarique Rahman vows not to evade duty over energy crisis

PM Tarique Rahman has stated that the government does not want to avoid its responsibilities by making excuses regarding the ongoing electricity and gas crisis.

He assured that administration is fully aware about the situation and working tirelessly to resolve the issues.

Tarique Rahman made these remarks on Tuesday (August 4) afternoon while addressing a discussion titled ’17 Years of Unyielding Struggle for Democracy and the Bloody July Uprising.’ at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) auditorium in Farmgate, Dhaka. The event was organized by the BNP to mark two years of the July Uprising.

Addressing public suffering due to power and gas shortages, the Prime Minister said, "The public is undoubtedly experiencing hardship. We are trying our best using our capacity, experience, and expert advice to pull the nation out of this situation."

He continued, "People are facing severe problems with electricity and gas across various parts of the country. However, it is also true that the former fascist government treated the energy sector as a means to enrich their own pockets. Naturally, rebuilding a sector that has been devastated by years of looting requires time."

Mentioning diplomatic initiatives to address the gas shortage, Tarique Rahman said, "We have initiated the process to import gas from Myanmar. Malaysia has also assured us of their cooperation in this regard."

Reflecting on taking office, the Prime Minister noted, "Upon assuming state responsibilities, we inherited a fragile economy, a broken healthcare system, and a divided administration. Virtually every state institution was handed over to us in a completely shattered state."
