India not involved in Hasina event: Jaiswal

India on Tuesday said it has no involvement in former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina's scheduled virtual appearance at a media event on August 5, a day after Dhaka urged New Delhi to prevent its territory from being used for political activities aimed at destabilising Bangladesh.


His remarks came after Bangladesh Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir’s meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi on Monday where he sought India's cooperation to ensure that Sheikh Hasina, or anyone linked to banned organisations, is not allowed to use Indian territory to deliver political speeches or carry out activities intended to create instability in Bangladesh.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kobir said such activities could undermine the positive progress in bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.

Meanwhile, India confirmed that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been invited to attend the outreach session of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi in his capacity as the current Chair of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). Jaiswal said a separate formal invitation had already been extended to Tarique Rahman when he assumed office in February 2026.

"As far as the BRICS Summit is concerned, India has separately extended an invitation to the Bangladesh Prime Minister in his capacity as the current Chair of BIMSTEC to attend the outreach session of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi," he said.

"The invitation has been extended as per the standard practice being followed in BRICS for the outreach sessions. Other heads of regional groups have also been invited in a similar manner."

India will host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13.
