Indian vessel sinks in Red Sea after attack; 14 crew rescued

An Indian vessel sank in the Red Sea off Yemen’s western coast after being attacked by an explosives-laden boat, while all 14 crew members were rescued safely, authorities said.

The Yemen government-backed National Resistance Forces said the vessel, Faiz-e-Noor-e-Alia, came under attack about 13 nautical miles south of Al-Hudaydah before sinking, Anadolu Agency reported.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and authorities have not identified those behind it.

A joint rescue operation by the Yemeni Navy and Coast Guard rescued all 14 crew members, including 13 Indian nationals and one Yemeni. No casualties were reported, and the survivors were taken to a safe location for medical treatment.

Authorities described the vessel as Indian but did not disclose the flag it was sailing under or its ownership.

The incident comes amid renewed attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait since last month. On July 20, Yemen’s Houthi group announced what it called a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, prompting Riyadh to warn of a strong response to any threats against its vessels.
