Cabinet reshuffle likely soon 

Intense speculation is circulating within Bangladesh's political and administrative circles over a possible major reshuffle of the country's cabinet, as the government is reportedly nearing the completion of a six-month performance evaluation of ministers.

Although no official announcement has been made, multiple senior ruling party and government sources told this correspondent that performance assessment reports covering the first six months of ministerial activities have already been submitted to the Prime Minister's Office. The reports are said to evaluate ministers on project implementation, administrative efficiency, public engagement and overall performance.

According to the sources, the government may consider reorganizing the cabinet after completing its first 180 days in office. However, these claims could not be independently verified, and the government has yet to confirm whether any reshuffle is under consideration.

Officials familiar with internal discussions say the reported review aims to accelerate implementation of key development programmes, strengthen coordination between ministries and field administration, improve public service delivery and enhance accountability. Sources also claim that the performance of several ministries has drawn concern within the government, potentially prompting changes in cabinet.

If the reshuffle takes place, several serving ministers could be reassigned, while new faces may be inducted into the cabinet. Changes are also being discussed for a number of strategically important ministries, though no official details have been released.

A senior government source claimed that at least three cabinet ministers could lose their portfolios. Discussions have reportedly centred on possible changes in the ministries of Health, Education, Road Transport and Bridges, Housing and Public Works, Commerce, Social Welfare, and Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Uncertainty has also been reported regarding the future of several state ministers serving in the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Water Resources, and Housing and Public Works ministries.

Party insiders have floated several names as potential candidates should vacancies arise. They claim that AZM Zahid Hossain and Dr. M.A. Muhith are among those being discussed for the Health Ministry, while Abdul Awal Mintoo has reportedly been mentioned in connection with the Commerce Ministry. However, there has been no official confirmation of these names.

Sources further indicated that a reconstituted cabinet could include a combination of experienced lawmakers, veteran politicians and a small number of younger faces. Internal discussions have also reportedly included the possibility of reorganising the responsibilities of several ministries to improve administrative efficiency.

The speculation has generated considerable interest and uncertainty among ministers and state ministers. However, none has publicly confirmed that a reshuffle is imminent.

Responding to the reports, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rasheduzzaman Millat told the Daily Observer, "We do not know what will happen. We are seeing various posts on Facebook claiming that some people will become ministers and that there will be a reshuffle."
